Auto Repairs

I wouldn't work either...
So there's this known problem with Ford Tauruses. There's a hole in the side panel by the engine, and no hole in the blower motor mount. Water gets in, but it doesn't get out - creating a rusty motor that stops working once the cold hits, leaving motorists in the... cold? For us it meant no defrost - a bad thing for a New England winter! Apparently, Ford knows of this problem, but won't budge: the car owner is still responsible for the repairs. Online, comments show other Taurus owners receiving estimates of $250-800 for this repair. We took some other advice - purchased the part for $70 with second day shipping, and installed it ourselves. One hour of work and we saved ourselves a few bucks and the large potential for death or destruction. Not that we would have driven without the defrost... but it sounds scarier that way.

Eric, with the culprit. Note that the new part has a drain hole built in to it.
